Four taxis and a private car collided on Hong Kong’s Shenzhen Bay Bridge, leaving six people injured and forcing the temporary closure of a road leading to a nearby land border crossing.

A police spokesman said officers were alerted to the crash at 2.36pm on Sunday.

“The private car was suspected to have lost control and rammed into one of the taxis, which then crashed into three taxis in front, causing a serial collision and the private car to overturn,” the force said.

Footage of the collision circulating online showed a black seven-seater car lying upside down, with part of its front end smashed and debris strewn across the road.

The collision happened on the mainland-bound lane of the bridge. All drivers passed breathalyser tests.

One of the injured cabbies, 74, reported pain in his neck, chest and feet. A second taxi driver, 59, suffered pain in his neck and waist.
